BIO

Olusegun Awojobi is a multidisciplinary visual artist working primarily in ceramics and painting. He was born in Ibadan, a city in Southwestern Nigeria, where his early life was shaped by close contact with nature and agricultural landscapes. Growing up in Ibadan, he often accompanied his father, an agriculturist, to farms and horticultural spaces, experiences that nurtured his deep sensitivity to plants, animals, and ecological systems. These formative encounters with the natural world continue to serve as the foundation of his artistic vision.

Awojobi’s art practice is deeply inspired by nature and the interconnected relationship between humans, flora, and fauna. Through ceramic sculpture, functional vessels, and acrylic paintings, he explores themes of environmental care, identity, and human-natural world coexistence. His ceramic works often merge sculptural and functional forms such as teapots, vases, and jars, incorporating engraved linear patterns that reference African visual traditions and storytelling. His paintings frequently depict women emerging from or surrounded by natural elements, using vibrant colours and expressive brushwork to highlight the intimate bond between femininity and the environment. He is currently undertaking a Master’s degree in Contemporary Fine Art at the University of Salford, Manchester, in the United Kingdom, where his research-driven practice continues to evolve through experimentation, critical inquiry, and engagement with contemporary art discourse.
